Sting Subs In For Neil Younger At Eddie Vedder’s Ohana Pageant

Sting will sub in for the ailing Neil Young and Crazy Horse at Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder‘s Ohana Festival on Sept. 29 at Doheny Beach State Park in Dana Point, Ca. The former Police frontman was already announced as the replacement for Young and Crazy Horse earlier in September at the Bourbon and Beyond festival in Louisville, Ky.

Sting perform at both events with his new trio STING 3.0, which has been featuring a number of his old band’s songs in their set lists this year. Pearl Jam’s members have often saluted the influence of his work, with bassist Jeff Ament having once taken a road trip to see Sting open for the Grateful Dead in Las Vegas in 1993.

Pearl Jam also welcomed Sting on stage at their 2016 Madison Square Garden show for a performance of the Police’s “Driven to Tears,” while Vedder guested at a Sting solo show that year in Seattle.

As for Young and Crazy Horse, they postponed a series of shows in late June due to undisclosed health issues within the band. At the time, they called the move ” a big unplanned break” but have yet to release an update about their status.

Pearl Jam will headline the other two nights Ohana as part of a lineup featuring Alanis Morissette, Garbage, Black Pumas, IDLES, Jenny Lewis, the Breeders and Crowded House.
