Texas rapper S7GMA places his existence into his paintings with ‘Now’

SAN MARCOS, Tex. — Texas rapper S7GMA knew at a young age that he needed to get away from his birthplace if he was going to survive, and he’s putting that story into song for everyone to hear in his upcoming EP ‘Mine of Me,’ coming out before the end of 2024.

Among the seven tracks on this project are songs with simple, straightforward names, like ‘Now,’ which talks about how his life looks like after a number of challenges.

More from Spin:

“’Now’ is basically hey, this is where I am right now,” S7GMA said. “Tomorrow is not promised, but if you do make it to tomorrow, whatever you do right now in the present will affect tomorrow. ‘Now’ is the future, the stereotypical future we’ll never be able to live in because that is ahead of our time. We’ll always be living in the ‘Now.’ So ‘Now’ the future, whatever you do now will affect tomorrow.”

S7GMA said ‘Now’ is also about who he has been the past five years. He gathers the experiences from that period of time and realizes he’s been through so much and he’s grown so much.

“Time does not wait for anybody, so why sit here and stress?” S7GMA said. “Why get upset about things that you can’t take with you to your grave? I rewired myself, and this is a beginning of a new forever.”

‘Now’ will be the final track on the seven-track ‘Mind of Me’ project.

S7GMA said creation of the instrumental portion of ‘Now’ began last year, and the lyrics followed. He spent two months making everything perfect on the track, saying that he didn’t want to rush it because the song meant so much to him.

“For ‘Now’ I originally went forward around the same time that I started doing another track, ‘Sorry,’ at the beginning of this year when I locked myself in my room for a good three months and only came out to go to work and stuff,” S7GMA said. “I started off with the piano and ‘Now’ was originally supposed to be more like a pop-sounding song. As soon as I heard the piano part and I started laying down more keys, it sort of sounding more orchestra like. And that’s how you get to the end of it. It’s just something beautiful and I felt like a conductor.”

He said ‘Now’ is about living for himself and being his authentic self.

“A quote from the song, I’m saying; ‘I’ve already spent enough time in my mind trying to find who I was, just so I could be myself. And in that time I find a me that wasn’t mine, come to find who I was was me, for someone else,’” S7GMA said. ‘So even in the memories that I felt like were good memories, that still wasn’t of me for me. I wasn’t 100 percent authentic, it was just a facade really. I was just doing what everyone wanted me to do whether that came with good or bad. So that’s that’s what ‘Now’ is. Now is forever, time doesn’t wait for anybody. It’s time to be me, my time is now, now and forever.”
