Since teaming up with Paul Heyman, former WWE Undisputed Champion Roman Reigns has undergone an evolution in his WWE career. Initially, Reigns was a popular babyface known for his strong in-ring presence and heroic persona. Ever since 2015, WWE has attempted to make Roman Reigns the next face of the promotion.
Despite achieving multiple championship accolades, main-eventing WrestleMania, and defeating legends, his character struggled to connect with audiences, leading WWE to rethink his direction. The turning point came when Reigns aligned with Paul Heyman in 2020, marking the beginning of his “Tribal Chief” persona.
As a heel, Reigns embraced a more complex character, asserting dominance and authority. His partnership with Heyman, who became his advocate, added layers of manipulation and power dynamics to his persona. Reigns positioned himself as the head of the table, demanding respect and loyalty from both his family and opponents.
Following the heel turn, fans and Roman Reigns finally saw the true potential in him that had been long demanded. The Tribal Chief, who has now been a prominent figure for four years, remains a relevant and top star in the promotion. Recently, The Tribal Chief shared his thoughts on whether he prefers being a babyface or a heel.
Roman Reigns discusses his role: “Babyface is easier, but heel work is more fun”
Roman Reigns recently appeared with his Wiseman, Paul Heyman, at Bloomberg’s Power Players event in New York. During the interview, he discussed whether being a babyface or a heel is preferable. He mentioned that while performing as a babyface is generally easier, he finds being a heel to be much more enjoyable.
He stated, “Well, the business was its most successful with me as a heel but, you know, the future looks bright so we’ll see. I think babyface is an easier side to actually perform in, but it’s so much more fun as a bad guy.”
In August, Roman Reigns turned babyface upon his return at WWE SummerSlam and attacked Solo Sikoa. Since then, he has been cheered in every arena he appears in.
