Patrick Dempsey Had Conversations About Reprising Mark Kincaid Position

Patrick Dempsey says he’s had conversations about reprising his Mark Kincaid role in Scream 7.

Scream 7 is being directed by Kevin Williamson, who wrote the screenplay for the original 1996 Scream movie. Williamson also worked on the franchise’s sequels, as he was a writer on 1997’s Scream 2 and 2011’s Scream 4, a producer on 2000’s Scream 3, and an executive producer on 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI.

It was previously announced that Neve Campbell would reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in Scream 7 after being absent from Scream VI due to contract and salary negotiations.

Now, Dempsey is hinting that he also may be returning for Scream 7.

What did Patrick Dempsey say about Scream 7?

Appearing on Today, Dempsey said he’s “waiting on the script for Scream 7.” He continued, “There’s been a conversation about it. I haven’t seen anything, yet, so we’ll see what happens.”

When asked if he’s open to returning for another Scream movie, Dempsey joked, “Yeah, it’s always good to have a job.”

Dempsey’s Kincaid character was featured in Scream 3, which was also directed by Wes Craven. In that movie, Mark Kincaid is a detective investigating the Ghostface murders who then becomes love-struck with Sidney. While Dempsey didn’t return for any other Scream sequels up until now, his character is now canonically married to Sidney and they have three children together.

As of September 2024, Courtney Cox has not “officially” signed on to reprise her role as Gale Weathers in the seventh Scream movie as of yet, via Variety. Matthew Lillard also recently said that he believes his Scream character, Stu Macher, is “definitely” alive and would be willing to reprise the role again should Williamson want him to.

Scream 7 will be released in United States theaters on February 27, 2026.
