The Mandalorian & Grogu Solid Provides Returning Superstar From Disney+ Superstar Wars Collection

Jonny Coyne will reprise his role as an Imperial warlord in The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Coyne played an Imperial warlord in the seventh episode of The Mandalorian Season 3, which was released in 2023. In the episode, Coyne’s character and a number of other Imperial officials meet with Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon to discuss the Mandalorian’s plans regarding Mandalore. The group of warlords is called the Shadow Council, which secretly operates against the New Republic.

Per Deadline, Coyne will be reprising his Mandalorian role in Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is set to be released in 2026. It is not immediately clear how large of a role Coyne’s character will have in the movie.

Along with The Mandalorian, Coyne is known for playing Warden Edwin James in Fox’s Alcatraz and Dr. Arthur Lydgate in ABC’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. His filmography includes 2003’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider — The Cradle of Life, 2012s Would You Rather, 2013’s The Hangover Part III, 2018’s The Nun, and 2020’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

What else do we know about The Mandalorian & Grogu?

Plot details for The Mandalorian & Grogu remain under wraps at this time. Pedro Pascal is returning to play Din Djarin, while Sigourney Weaver has been cast in an undisclosed role. It was also recently announced that The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White is voicing Jabba the Hutt’s son, Rotta the Hutt.

“What we know from footage shown at D23 back in August is that The Mandalorian & Grogu features a Hoth-like landscape ala 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back with AT-ATs,” Deadline’s article notes. “Also Babu Frick from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has a cameo along with red alien Zeb from Filoni’s animated series Star Wars: Rebels.”

With the screenplay co-written by Favreau and Dave Filoni, The Mandalorian & Grogu hits United States theaters on May 22, 2026.
