Curious if Love Island USA contestants are allowed to drink, how much alcohol they can have, and what rules they must follow in the villa? Former islanders are shedding light on what really goes on behind the scenes when it comes to booze.
Here’s what we know so far about how Love Island USA restricts alcohol, how many drinks contestants receive, and when exceptions apply.
Do contestants drink on Love Island USA and how many are they allowed to?
Yes, Love Island USA contestants are allowed to drink alcohol, but with strict limitations.
According to multiple former contestants and official sources, islanders typically receive only one alcoholic drink per night, either wine, beer, or prosecco, with rare occasions allowing two.
Kaylor Martin and Liv Walker confirmed in an August 2024 interview with PEOPLE that drinking in the villa was minimal. Martin said, “No,” when asked if they were allowed to drink, while Walker added, “Okay, they gave you a drop. They’re like, ‘Here’s this for the night.’” She compared the experience to feeling “pregnant” due to the lack of alcohol. The duo resorted to spinning around to feel tipsy: “We’d do three spins so we’d get tipsy, but were just dizzy.”
According to other sources, drinks are pre-poured and monitored closely by producers. A spokesperson stated, “All alcohol consumption is strictly monitored by our production team” (via The Tab). Contestants are not allowed to share drinks, and doing so can lead to a group punishment such as a five-day alcohol ban.
Occasional exceptions exist. Producers may allow contestants more than one drink on Movie Night or during special events like first dates. Danica Taylor noted that producers occasionally provide a second drink on emotionally charged nights. Jessica Shears also revealed that first dates often come with increased alcohol to help contestants “loosen up.”
Amy Hart and Phoebe Siegel further clarified that liquor is generally not allowed. Drinks are limited to beer, wine, or prosecco, and usually not a “generous pour.” Despite rare exceptions, former contestants like Elishi said it’s “impossible to get drunk on that show.”
These restrictions aim to prevent excessive drinking and maintain safety and control during filming.
