Mortal Kombat 2’s Karl Urban shares Johnny Cage’s Uncaged Fury movie poster

Karl Urban shared a new promotional poster for Mortal Kombat 2 on Instagram, featuring himself as Johnny Cage in a fictional in-universe film titled Uncaged Fury.

The post, captioned “UNCAGED FURY. Available at your Video store. Exclusively on VHS. MORTAL KOMBAT II. Hitting theaters Oct 24, 2025,” includes a retro-styled image of Cage and has garnered over 115,000 likes.

The fictional film Uncaged Fury is part of the marketing campaign for Mortal Kombat 2 and also appears on a fake IMDb listing for Johnny Cage, showing a humorous breakdown of the character’s career.

According to that page, Johnny Cage (Jonathan Carlton) is described as a martial arts champion and action star known for roles in “Uncaged Fury,” “Hard to Cage,” and “Rebel Without a Cage,” among others. The page also lists awards like “Best Sunglasses” and includes fictional trivia and quotes such as “I’m Johnny F—— Cage.”

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon also referenced the campaign on X (formerly Twitter), posting a message reading, “It. Must. Deliver. Big,” alongside the faux poster. Fans have responded enthusiastically, noting the nostalgic style reminiscent of 90s action movies and praising the campaign for its creativity.

Replies on Urban’s post include humorous questions, with one user commenting, “Make the boys bro,” and another asking if the Taj Mahal appears in the background of the image.

Mortal Kombat 2 is scheduled for theatrical release on October 24, 2025. The confirmed cast includes Karl Urban as Johnny Cage and Lewis Tan as Cole Young. Jessica McNamee returns as Sonya Blade, and Hiroyuki Sanada reprises his role as Scorpion. The sequel is the second entry in a planned trilogy. It continues the story set up by the 2021 film, which introduced the Mortal Kombat tournament.
