Zach Cregger, the director and writer behind Barbarian and Weapons, wrote a script for a DC movie that he hopes to get made, and a new report sheds some light on what it is.
What do we know about Zach Cregger’s DC movie?
While previously rumored to be set around Joker and Harley Quinn, Cregger’s movie instead focuses on the lesser-known characters that exist in the world of Gotham City.
According to a report in THR’s Heat Vision newsletter, Cregger’s movie is titled Henchmen, and follows the story of a low-level henchman in Gotham City who incapacitates Batman through a “stroke of luck.” After this, he begins to gain notoriety in Gotham’s crime underworld.
The report also mentions that characters like Batman, Joker, and Harley Quinn could all appear “briefly” in the movie. However, the movie has several notable hurdles to get through before ever being made. Specifically, James Gunn and Peter Safran have not cast any of Batman, Joker, or Harley in the DCU yet.
Another hitch is that, according to THR, Gunn and Safran will likely “be careful” with Batman-related content while Matt Reeves is still crafting his own The Batman universe.
In a recent interview with THR, Cregger acknowledged the script, but did note that it wasn’t in his plans just yet. Up next for Cregger is his Resident Evil film. Then, he says he has an original sci-fi film that he wants to make, before listing the mysterious DC movie as the project he’d like to tackle after that.
“I have Resident Evil, and then I have a sci-fi movie right after that that’s original,” said Zach Cregger. “And then I have another finished script that I want to do after that. It actually takes place in the DC Universe, but it’s a totally original and it’s not a superhero movie.”
