Lucasfilm has reportedly issued a clarification on whether Ewan McGregor is returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Ahsoka Season 2. This comes after an outlet reported on McGregor’s return in the Disney+ show. Notably, the character was initially portrayed by Alec Guinness in the original Star Wars trilogy. McGregor took up the mantle of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy. He also made voice cameo appearances in the sequel trilogy and reprised the role in the 2022 Disney+ series named after his character.
An outlet misinterpreted Ewan McGregor’s comment at Fan Expo Boston this weekend, reporting that he is returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Ahsoka Season 2. Other publications subsequently picked this up. However, it was later revealed that McGregor’s comment was about his wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who played Hera Syndulla in the inaugural season of Ahsoka.
According to Collider, McGregor actually said, “Well, I like watching my wife, you know, so I really enjoyed Ahsoka. I thought that was brilliantly done. It’s so funny, like, you know, she’s shooting the second season now, and I know. Is that a secret?” McGregor was reportedly responding to a question about his favorite Star Wars installment that he’s not part of when he made the above-mentioned remark.
It seems that the initial outlet didn’t notice the “she” part in McGregor’s statement before. Additionally, Collider reports that after others told McGregor that it wasn’t a secret that the production for Ahsoka Season 2 has been going on since April this year, he added, “Well, she is anyway.” The actor then spoke about Facetiming Winstead while she was covered in green paint. “She’s a very beautiful green lady, so. I love that,” he said.
Further, Star Wars News Net has reported that Lucasfilm reached out to them and advised that the reports about McGregor’s involvement in Ahsoka Season 2 were a misunderstanding.
Ahsoka Season 2 doesn’t have an official release date at the time of this article’s composition.
