Robbie Amell’s old interview teased why Upload Season 4 has four episodes

Robbie Amell, who stars as Nathan Brown, addressed the shortened season in a February 2025 interview with Mama’s Geeky, explaining, “What will be interesting is it’s only four episodes, sadly, but they’re four great episodes, and it means the final season moves very quick… Greg wrote it. It’s beautiful.”

Amell clarified that the creative team knew the ending was coming, saying the conclusion was not a surprise. “The series finale was written as a series finale,” he emphasized, confirming there would be no unresolved cliffhangers. This confirms that the creator was convinced of a four-episode run being enough to tell the leftover story.

Creator Greg Daniels had originally envisioned the story spanning four seasons, stating in 2024, “When I conceived Upload many years ago, I had the story arced out over four seasons, so I am thrilled to make the ending the fans deserve and the characters and creative team have been working towards.” (via Deadline)

Despite the shortened run, the cast highlighted the resilience of the show. Allegra Edwards, who plays Ingrid, recently told The Wrap, “It’s unheard of! Especially for a comedy on like — these streaming platforms can be so saturated, you know? It’s been a gift of grace the whole time, even when it felt kind of dire, and ‘Gosh, the strike could really put us back,’ or ‘Is COVID going to shut us down?’”

The series faced pandemic delays and strike-related challenges, which Robbie Amell described as difficult for promotion, noting, “It never seemed too scary that we weren’t going to [return] until maybe after the third season, because we couldn’t promote the strike season. It was really tough to know what the numbers were, how we were doing, and if anyone was watching it.”

All four seasons of Upload are streaming on Prime Video, closing Nathan, Nora, and Ingrid’s story after five years.
