Malcolm within the Heart’s Frankie Muniz Says Reboot Will Surprise Lovers


Frankie Muniz, widely known for portraying the eponymous Malcolm in the Fox sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, recently hinted at “pretty shocking” elements in the upcoming reboot of the popular series.

Malcolm in the Middle originally aired for seven seasons between 2000 and 2006. Conversations about a potential reunion have been around since the 2010s. Initially pitched as a two-hour movie, the reboot ultimately evolved into a four-episode TV show, slated to stream on Disney+.

During an appearance on the Lightweights Podcast with Joe Vulpis, Frankie Muniz discussed the upcoming Malcolm in the Middle reboot, titled Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, and revealed that the premise will be “pretty shocking” to viewers.

Muniz, who has become a racing driver since wrapping the show, also disclosed that he never saw the series when it was originally airing. When he finally did, he found Malcolm to be the worst character in the family.

However, Muniz stated that after reading the scripts for the new episodes, he fell in love with Malcom. He clarified that he didn’t want to give away too much about the plot, but he did say that his character has a successful business and will get “closure” by the time the reboot concludes. Muniz also confirmed that Malcolm has a daughter in the new episodes.

According to Muniz, fans will be surprised to learn where various characters are in the reboot. “I think people will be surprised, in a sense, where everybody is and the story,” he noted. “It’s hard to fit in 20 years of stuff into four 30-minute episodes, right? But I think people are going to be very happy with what they came up with.”

Muniz also declared that he had the “best time” of his entire life while filming the new episodes.
