Row K Entertainment has released the official trailer for Dead Man’s Wire, the upcoming crime drama starring Colman Domingo (Rustin) as Fred Temple and Bill Skarsgård (Nosferatu) as Tony Kiritsis.
Following its world premiere at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival, the movie is now slated to arrive in select theaters on January 9, 2026, followed by a wide release on January 16, 2026. Before this, it will first have its awards qualifying run on December 12, 2025.
“Based on a true story, the 1977 kidnapping of a prominent banker grips the nation and turns the abductor into an outlaw folk hero. As the media frenzy peaks, the standoff becomes a spectacle of desperation, defiance, and blurred justice, which resonates even today,” reads the movie’s official synopsis.

What happens in the Dead Man’s Wire trailer?
The video features Skarsgård’s Tony Kiritsis, who, after falling behind on his payments, decided to kidnap his mortgage broker with a shotgun. In exchange for releasing the broker, he wants to receive an apology from the people whom he felt had scammed him. The hostage incident gained media attention, with Tony becoming an unlikely hero for some who admired his bravery for standing up for himself. The trailer also previews Tony’s on-air calls with radio DJ Fred Temple during the kidnapping.
Dead Man’s Wire is directed by Good Will Hunting filmmaker Gus Van Sant, with Austin Kolodney writing the screenplay. The movie also stars Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things) as Richard Hall, Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride) as Detective Michael Grable, Myha’la (Industry) as Linda Page, Al Pacino (The Irishman) as M.L. Hall, Jordan Claire Robbins (The Umbrella Academy) as Doreen, Daniel R. Hill (Second Chances) as Jimmy Kiritsis, and more.
