During an appearance on the “Friends Keep Secrets” podcast, Lizzo revealed that part of the reason she was a “late bloomer” was due to a pact she made to herself decades earlier. Although Lizzo’s music has sexual innuendos, the singer, real name Melissa Jefferson, didn’t have many experiences of her own until just a few years ago.
“I promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn’t have sex until I won a Grammy,” she said on the “Friends Keep Secrets” show, surprising hosts Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky, and Kristin Batalucco.
Lizzo won her first Grammy in 2020. In fact, her first three came that night, taking home Grammys for Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Urban Contemporary Album, and Best Traditional R&B Performance.
Continuing, Lizzo admitted that finally breaking the seal gave her a sense of relief. “I lied about it for a long time,” she said. “I feel a weight off of my chest right now.”

Elsewhere during the show, Lizzo opened up about an awkward moment she had when her college friends asked her about sex.
“We were all girling one night, and it was like, ‘Wait, Lizzo, are you a virgin?’ And I remember being like, ‘No!’” Lizzo shared. “I remember it was so embarrassing. I said, ‘I love the D’… And it held me over for a little while.”
For Lizzo, sex wasn’t the only thing she stayed away from. According to her, she didn’t have her first kiss until she was 21.
However, part of why she held off on pursuing certain experiences was her religious upbringing. “Like, when we were teenagers at my church, we all made a pact that we wouldn’t do anything before marriage. And then, I was just so scared. Like, nobody wanted to kiss me,” she said.
Lizzo Gets Candid About Her ‘Terrible’ First Kiss
Someone did kiss Lizzo eventually, a moment she described as “terrible.” She explained that she was “actually very upset” by the kiss because it happened on New Year’s Eve.
“I was really mad, and I was like, ‘My first kiss is ruined.’ I was so mad,” she said.
Lizzo is currently in a long-term relationship with Myke Wright, according to PEOPLE. The singer confirmed their romance during an April 2022 interview with “Watch What Happens Live” host Andy Cohen.
During their conversation, the “Truth Hurts” singer admitted she was “very much in love” with Wright, stating confidently that there was no other man for her.

After seeing photos of herself from the red carpet of Paris Hilton’s “Infinite Icon” streaming event, Lizzo took to Instagram and pleaded with the media to upload new photos of her from the night.
