Golda Rosheuvel recently got candid about an uncomfortable run-in with fans during a vacation after the show’s massive success, describing it as “really weird and scary.”
Speaking on Tuesday’s episode of Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Dinner’s on Me podcast, the Bridgerton star opened up about the anxiety and loss of privacy that followed her rise to fame on the widely-watched Netflix series.
Reflecting on her relationship with her wife, Shireen Mula, the Queen Charlotte portrayer said, “It is helpful that we were together before it all went crazy. Sometimes she still holds on to the old days, which can be a little difficult.”
Rosheuvel cited their increased travel expenses as an example, explaining, “I don’t want to sound like a wanker, but it’s things like having to travel in a different seat than we used to. Do you know what I mean? And flying to Europe for £400 now rather than £50.”
The 56-year-old clarified that the change wasn’t about seeking luxury, but about protecting her privacy. She shared that she now feels anxious while traveling because people constantly stare. The Eye for an Eye actress added that being in the spotlight has heightened her senses.
Now, she can instantly tell when someone has recognized her, even from a distance. According to Rosheuvel, there have been “things that have happened” since her rise to fame on Bridgerton, which she said “have not been pleasant.”
“We were chased in Barcelona by a few girls,” she reflected. “And that was really weird and scary and, you know, we were on holiday. It was just bizarre.” The Dune actress went on to say that she is grateful her income allows her to protect herself.
