James Gunn’s HBO Max Superman Sequence’ New Episode Is Now Streaming

Superman is back in the new episode of the DC series that has James Gunn as an executive producer on HBO Max. David Corenswet’s tenure as Superman started in the best possible way. After the old DCEU movie franchise barely used Henry Cavill’s Superman for years, Gunn had different plans for just how much the Man of Steel matters to the new DCU.

Superman led the franchise’s first movie and major project, and Corenswet helped the DCU start on the right foot to the tune of $618.7 million worldwide. Superman being a box office hit inspired confidence in his corner of the DCU, with Gunn fast-tracking the 2027 Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, which he once again writes and directs. Superman is flying high.

Sadly, Milly Alcock’s Supergirl movie stumbled at the box office, drawing criticism for the changes the movie made to the original, and beloved, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics penned by Tom King. Supergirl brought in $126.5 million. Corenswet’s Superman made sporadic appearances throughout Supergirl to try to convince his cousin to come to Earth, with some flashbacks thrown into the mix.

Are you the Man of Steel — or still stuck in a phone booth?

As DC fans await the release of Man of Tomorrow in theaters on July 9, 2027, there are a couple of projects on HBO Max that should help bridge the gap. One of those is Alcock’s Supergirl movie, which is currently the most-watched movie on HBO Max in the United States. The other is the animated Krypto Saves the Day! season 2, which just released a new episode on the streaming service this Thursday, October 1.

Krypto Saves The Day! Season 2 Continues With A Huge New Episode

Krypto Saves the Day! is a series of animated shorts that are inspired by the DCU, though Gunn has confirmed that the show is not canon to the shared universe. Still, some character designs, dynamics, and situations are very close to those seen in projects like Corenswet’s Superman movie and Alcock’s Supergirl solo film. Krypto Saves the Day! season 2 debuted with a single episode, “Space Busted!,” on HBO Max on September 10, the same day that Supergirl started streaming on HBO Max. That episode pulled ideas from Kara and Ruthye’s space bus travel from the DCU Supergirl movie.

Now, Krypto Saves the Day! season 2 has gone even bigger on the DCU inspirations. Episode 2, “Robo-Pal,” features several characters that look similar to what they do in the DCU. The episode marks Lex Luthor and Superman’s debuts in Krypto Saves the Day! season 2 after they were teased in the trailer for the new episodes. While Superman fights a giant monster with his cousin Supergirl, Lex, who is in a Luthorcorp building that looks just like the DCU version, creates a Robo-Dog to attack Superman, but Krypto ends up befriending him. Lobo, Metamorpho, Baby Joey, and The Engineer also appear.

How Many Episodes Could Krypto Saves The Day! Season 2 Have?

Right now, DC has yet to confirm how many episodes Krypto Saves the Day! season 2 will run for. That said, we already have an idea of when the season could end. There were four episodes in season 1, including “School Bus Scuffle,” “Halloween Havoc,” “Package Pandemonium,” and “Coastal Catastrophe.” Based on that, there is a chance that Krypto Saves the Day! season 2 will have a similar length, but even if it ends up exceeding season 1’s episode order, it is hard to imagine season 2 going any higher than six episodes.

With the Krypto Saves the Day! season 2 premiere, “Space Busted!,” having been released on HBO Max on September 10, and episode 2, “Robo-Pal,” arriving this Thursday, October 1, that means a 21-day gap between episodes. So, if season 2 runs for the same four episodes of season 1 and keeps to that schedule, Gunn’s HBO Max Superman series would finish airing its final season 2 episode on November 12.
