Alanis Morissette Will get Festive On First Vacation Album

Alanis Morissette is getting into the holiday spirit with Good Weather for Immaculate Conception, her first-ever holiday album, due Nov. 6 via Epiphany Music/Virgin Music. The 14-track collection features seasonal standards, two new original songs and a lineup of collaborators that includes Brandi Carlile, Steve Martin, Martin Short and Joy Oladokun.

The album opens with “O Holy Night” and includes Morissette’s new songs “To an Empath at Christmas Time” and “Christmas on the Dancefloor,” alongside interpretations of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” Joni Mitchell’s “River” and Wham!’s “Last Christmas.” The first single, “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem,” featuring Carlile and Martin, is available now.

Other guests include Amythyst Kiah on “Momma Mary,” the U.K.’s first professional trans choir, Trans Voices, on “O Tannenbaum” and Short on “Merry Christmas.” The record gathers Morissette’s previously released holiday songs alongside new material, building on a tradition she has developed over the past several years.

The announcement arrives during a busy stretch for Morissette, who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June and has continued to bring her catalog to audiences around the world. As previously reported, her Butterfly With a Machete residency is set to return to Los Angeles, with its latest run beginning Nov. 5 at YouTube Theater — the day before the new album arrives.

Morissette’s influence was also back in the cultural conversation following her surprise appearance with Olivia Rodrigo in August at the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields Festival, where the pair performed “Ironic.”
