All Scary Movie films ranked by RT score

6) Scary Movie 5 (2013)

2013’s Scary Movie 5 is currently the lowest-rated installment of the franchise with an approval rating of 4% on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie was directed by Malcolm D. Lee, with Pat Proft and David Zucker writing the screenplay. Described as a standalone sequel, it was the only installment that didn’t feature franchise leads Anna Faris and Regina Hall, who have been integral to the previous movies’ success. Their absence was one of the main reasons why the audience failed to connect with the fifth installment, which starred Ashley Tisdale, Simon Rex, Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, and Terry Crews.

5) Scary Movie 2 (2001)

Next on the list is 2001’s Scary Movie 2, which only scored a 13% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. During its theatrical run, the sequel wasn’t able to surpass the commercial success of its predecessor. The film mostly parodied popular haunted house and supernatural movies, including The Exorcist, Poltergeist, and The Haunting. Despite initially receiving negative reviews, it eventually became a favorite among fans since it featured lots of hilarious, iconic moments involving Faris and Hall’s characters.

4) Scary Movie (2026)

Taking fourth place is Paramount Pictures’ newest Scary Movie reboot, which reunites franchise favorites Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Faris, and Hall after over a decade. Just like previous installments, the latest sequel is currently receiving negative reviews from critics. So far, it has already garnered a Tomatometer rating of 31% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 35 reviews. Despite this, the new movie is seemingly gaining traction among moviegoers and fans who are excited to see how the film will parody modern horror films like Get Out, Sinners, Smile, M3GAN, and Scream 7.

3) Scary Movie 4 (2006)

The film’s hilarious Saw parody scenes have also been popular with fans.

2) Scary Movie 3 (2003)

Scary Movie 3 takes the second spot on the list with a current 36% RT score. The 2003 movie was the franchise’s first installment that didn’t involve any of the Wayans brothers. Despite its low critical score, it has been considered a step up from the 2001 sequel. At the moment, the film is the second-highest-grossing installment of the popular franchise, grossing over $220 million worldwide. Many fans consider the third installment to be the best Scary Movie sequel, featuring many memorable scenes like Brenda’s living room brawl with the parody villain from The Ring.

1) Scary Movie (2000)
