Guy Ritchie is a prolific part of Netflix’s black comedy crime drama series The Gentlemen and the Paramount+ crime drama show MobLand. Beyond that obvious connection, the two shows share several similarities. This has led to speculation about a potential crossover, and MobLand cast members are reacting to it.
Lara Pulver and Johnny Flynn discuss potential MobLand and The Gentlemen crossover
Lara Pulver, who plays Isabella “Bella” Harrigan in MobLand, and Johnny Flynn, who joined the Season 2 cast as Frankie Cooper, reflected on the prospect of a crossover with The Gentlemen during a recent interview with Radio Times. While acknowledging that both shows are under Guy Ritchie‘s “umbrella,” Pulver noted that she felt “they’re really different worlds.” She added, “I prefer the idea of the Harrigans doing Bake Off. That makes me laugh more.”
While both shows have that undeniable crime drama element, The Gentlemen, like many of Ritchie’s projects, leans significantly toward black comedy. Moreover, Ritchie serves as the creator, director, writer, and executive producer of The Gentlemen. But on MobLand, his duties are executive producer and director, with Ronan Bennett serving as the creator and Jez Butterworth as the showrunner.
Flynn, who said he had “only seen a bit of the first series” of The Gentlemen, underscored some of the dissimilarities. He said, “I think what’s great about Guy’s world-building is that they are all very different spaces.” Flynn brought up Ritchie’s past works. He elaborated, “Whether it’s Lock Stock or… and, in a funny way, despite MobLand being quite heightened in a way. It’s like, really?
The One Life actor continued, “Could that many people have been murdered in a shootout and you wouldn’t hear about it on the news? But The Gentleman has a sort of conceit, doesn’t it, that it feels even further from reality, in a good way.”
Later in the interview, Flynn observed that while it would be “really fun to do” a crossover, “they do feel like slightly separate things.”
