James Gunn took to Threads to confirm that fellow DC Studios co-head Peter Safran had let a major casting detail slip. Blaming Safran’s “loose lips,” Gunn confirmed that Josh Hutcherson and Mackenzie Davis will voice Mister Miracle and Big Barda, respectively.
Hutcherson and Davis will be voicing the New Gods in Mister Miracle, an upcoming animated series from Tom King. The show is based on King’s 2017 run on the character, also titled Mister Miracle. Safran pointed out how King’s work on Lanterns, which recently wrapped up Season 1, aided in the adaptation process of Mister Miracle.
He said, “I think that Tom King really learned a lot in his season of co-creating and executive producing Lanterns, and he adapted his book Mister Miracle fully on his own and wrote all eight episodes, and I think it’s just dynamite.”
James Gunn confirming Hutcherson and Davis’s involvement in the project has led fans to speculate about other casting reports around Mister Miracle. Tom King confirmed that Nathan Fillion will be reprising the role of Guy Gardner in the project.
Regarding Nathan Fillion’s part in the story, he said, “He brings that energy to every aspect of it. And you would think it would be different tonally from [Lanterns], but it blends because that’s who Guy is. He’s that guy who is over the top. We all know that guy who’s a little bit like that.”
No further information has been confirmed about the casting. The logline for the show reads, “No prison can hold him. No trap can contain him. He is Scott Free, the worldwide celebrity sensation known as Mister Miracle, and he is the greatest escape artist who ever lived. But can he pull off the ultimate trick – and escape death itself?”
As fans await further details, Mister Miracle is shaping up to be one of the most unique additions to the franchise’s growing television lineup.
